Permanent carbon removals will not be deployed at scale to fully mitigate the effects of climate change. Reducing emissions is first and foremost the most effective strategy towards net-zero. However, even if we stopped emitting today we would still need durable carbon removal to reach our climate goals due to committed warming from historical fossil fuel emissions.
All pathways to limiting global warming by 1.5ºC and 2ºC require CDR. Removals will help to deal with residual emissions from hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation.
This decade is a critical time to establish optimal CDR technologies for a given region and develop robust frameworks for their uses. Early CDR buyers have an outsized impact on the future trajectory of the market. By ensuring transparency and continued learning from on-going research, we can avoid the common pitfalls of traditional offsets while continuing to push the bar.

Additionally, we are only working with projects that are transparent and data sharing. This allows for the CDR community as a whole to learn from new deployments and early projects to continue to develop optimal practices.
